Ethiopia - Kenya 500 thousand volt power line construction
Ethiopia and Kenya are trying to become the first countries in the region to build 500 thousand volt power lines. Once completed, power lines are expected to transmit 2000 megawatts of power.
At present, the power line is being built by the China Power Technology and equipment corporation. The project is expected to be completed by September 2018, more than a year.
The cost of the power line project is estimated at $1 billion 260 million, financed by the African Development bank. According to reports, power lines extend 1045 kilometers, of which 445 kilometers are located in Ethiopia.
A year ago, Ethiopia and Kenya proposed a power interconnection project. The two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation with an electric power interconnection system.
